Safer Solutions is based in Co. Tipperary and carries out legionella risk assessments, legionella sampling and fire risk assessments for businesses, care providers and landlords in Drogheda and the surrounding area. If you manage a building, you are responsible for how its water system and fire precautions are managed. We help you show that both are under control.

Legionella bacteria can grow in water systems that are warm, stagnant or poorly maintained, and people can become ill if they breathe in contaminated spray from showers, taps and similar outlets. The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 requires employers to identify hazards and assess risks, and for most buildings that includes the hot and cold water system. The HPSC National Guidelines for the Control of Legionellosis in Ireland and the HSA information on Legionnaires’ disease are the main Irish references.
Every legionella risk assessment we carry out includes:
Not sure what to expect? Read what happens on a legionella risk assessment visit.
We take water samples at your premises and send them to an independent accredited laboratory. Sampling shows what is in the water on the day it is taken, so it works alongside your risk assessment rather than replacing it. Results are not instant, and we tell you when to expect yours. See our guides on sampling versus risk assessment and how often sampling should be done.
A fire risk assessment looks at how a fire could start in your building, who would be at risk and whether everyone could get out safely. It supports your duty under section 18(2) of the Fire Services Acts 1981 and 2003 to take reasonable measures to guard against fire, and your risk assessment duties under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005. We look at escape routes, fire doors, detection and alarm, emergency lighting, storage and housekeeping, and give you a written report with practical actions. Read our fire risk assessment checklist or see our fire risk assessments in Ireland.
We work with nursing homes and residential care providers, hotels and guesthouses, food processing and manufacturing sites, schools and childcare providers, offices, and landlords and managing agents. If your premises are something else, call us and we will talk you through what applies to your building.
If your risk assessment recommends cleaning a cold water storage tank, we carry out tank cleans as well, so one company can look after the assessment and the follow-up work.

Your risk assessment sets the frequency. For healthcare settings the HPSC national guidelines recommend sampling twice a year, and other premises vary with the level of risk. We can talk you through what applies to your building.
Employers must identify hazards and assess risks under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, and a water system is one of them. The size of the building affects how complex the assessment is, not whether the water system needs to be considered.
The duty falls on the person having control of the premises. That can be the owner, the occupier or both, depending on the lease. We can talk you through what applies to your building.
