Water sampling in schools is important to ensure that the water in the school is safe to drink and use. There are several potential contaminants that can be present in water, including bacteria, viruses, and chemicals. School Principles unfortunately do not organise for water sampling to be done, organise for a legionella Risk Assessments to be done, organise for the water storage tanks within schools to cleaned and disinfected once per year. Most Tanks have never been cleaned since the tank has been installed.

To collect a water sample in a school, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain a sterile water sample bottle and any necessary sampling equipment, such as gloves and a sanitizer.
  2. Locate the tap or faucet from which you will collect the sample.
  3. Turn on the tap and let the water run for a few minutes to flush out any contaminants that may be present in the pipes.
  4. Once the water is running clear, turn off the tap and carefully open the sample bottle.
  5. Hold the bottle under the tap and fill it with water, taking care not to touch the inside of the bottle or the tap with your hands.
  6. Close the bottle securely and label it with the date, time, and location of the sample.
  7. Transport the sample to a laboratory for testing as soon as possible.

It is important to follow proper sampling procedures to ensure that the water sample is representative of the water in the school and that the results of the testing are accurate. It is also important to regularly test the water in a school to ensure that it is safe to drink and use.
